Sell your art online – show your creativity

Linoprint by Eden KayeDo you see yourself as a budding artist? well selling your artwork online can create a fantastic income.

There are so many forms of art to sculpting, photography, drawing etc. People will pay good money to buy pieces of art. It is a big market and like anything it takes a lot of work, but the rewards are worth all the time and effort. The hardest part is standing out from the rest, there are a lot of people out there now selling their art online. Always use your best artwork and share as much as possible. If the art is not that different to others, make sure it is of the highest quality. It’s like a painting looking almost exactly like the photo.

Sell from your own website

You have full control when you are selling art from your own website, but it is more work than if you are selling on marketplaces like posting the art to customers yourself. It’s not hard at all to set up a website, there are sites like Wealthy Affiliate, this site was created through it, that can help with you and uses the wordpress platform. There is a free option to sign up to, which offers great features and gives training in marketing your website. It’s great to be able to add more of a personal touch with a website. You can set up to have donations from site visitors/fans of your work.

Where else can you sell?

  • First of all list the art on Etsy, because that attracts a worldwide audience. Put on your best work and write an interesting description, how you made it and why you enjoy doing that type of art for example.
  • It’s not all about online, you can showcase work at galleries and art and craft fairs whilst promoting your website, you can gain many contacts in the art world and get more followers on your social media pages.
  • It’s really important to create social media pages on facebook, twitter and instagram of all your art work. Every art piece you can share on them and build up a following. Share to friends and family, they will hopefully share to other people to. It doesn’t actually cost too much to create advertising campaigns promoting your work on Facebook, there certainly can be quite a lot of engagement on this social media platform. Work hard on social media and it will really work well for you.
  • Online art marketplaces like Redbubble. They will do all the work for you in terms of sending your artwork to the customers, doing prints and you can even sell memorabilia that they source. Of course with all marketplaces there are fees for example when you sell.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful article with us .I love drawing and this is my art and if it is online then there is no point. I love this place very much. I have seen many of my friends who sell their art online through sculptures, drawings and make money. I also saw them in my photography and drawing, which is my favorite art. I also started doing business online. In fact, what I found more important than business is the satisfaction of people and my satisfaction .I spread my artwork online on social media like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. and found a great identity of my own. And getting a lot of good responses is making a lot of money .It is a platform where I believe that by working hard, it is possible to succeed .In the future, I want to do something big with my artwork .And I’m delighted to have such a large online marketplace like Redbubble .Looking forward to more such articles in the future .

    1. Hello Shanta,

Art inspires so many people and it’s great to see so many different forms of art on the internet. There is nothing greater than creating your own art and when you make an income from it, its a great bonus.

Redbubble is a massive marketplace and a lot of people can end up seeing your work. You are doing all the right things and I wish you all the best with your artwork. Thank you for your kind comments.

  2. The value of things is primarily subjective. We wouldn’t be able that depends on its usability as the fact of something being likeable provides it with the immediate function of provoking pleasant feelings on its user/owner. The one requirement for someone to be an artist is related to its ability to create, or better said, bringing to this material world anything that lays within him with the primary intention of expressing it.

Art is not intended to pleased anyone else than the creative artist. The capacity to enjoying and find pleasure in observing a piece of art is a collateral consequence of it being part of a shared concrete reality.

Thanks for sharing the idea of getting empowered to do more and expose what has been done to others using most current technologies and platforms. I’d rather go for the initial option provided of creating a personal online presence instead of using well-established platform like Etsy. That will open the opportunity of creating your own audience and keeping a public record of proprietary information of unique art pieces.

    1. Hello Juan,

You are spot on with your comments, couldn’t agree more with you.

I think creating your own online presence is something any budding artist should do because of what you mentioned.

Thank you for stopping by today.

      Best Wishes

  3. Hi Eden,

Selling art online can be very financially rewarding for anyone.

While I do agree with you that one can market art offline, I tend to prefer going online. I would go for building my own website using Wealthy Affiliate.

Many of us are very artistic, so we can easily use wealthy affiliate and build a successful Art selling website with the help of WA step by step lessons and training.

    1. Hello Jordan,

Yes Wealthy Affiliate is the way to go to build a really good art selling website, because of all the other help you gain from the lessons on how to market your website and gaining visitors. With the free option to sign up on wealthy affiliate, free 10 lessons and build a free website or the paid option with hundreds of lessons and many other benefits.

      Thank you

  4. Hi Eden Kaye,
Artistes worldwide no matter what type of art they create should take note of your advice regarding the benefits of selling their works from their own websites and selling from an online marketplace.

Artistes should be in control of the inspired works that they produce, and should be able to reap proper benefits from their efforts. My suggestion for budding artistes right now would be to learn how to create their own site, then list their art on the site. Then promote their pieces using Social media and other available avenues.

For this the website that you mentioned, Wealthy Affiliate provides the best learning resources to get them up and running as quickly as possible with their own website hosted online.

    1. Hello Donald,

I think budding artists would find great pleasure in building their own website, absolutely. Social media plays such an important role in getting your artwork noticed because of the amount of people on their and also you can pay not a lot of money to promote with adverts. Selling art on online marketplaces is another good way of promoting your art, but the first way to go is creating your own website with the help of Wealthy Affiliate, because it offers the learning element of how to promote your website along with a community of thousands of people to help with any questions, with many other benefits offered. You can get many things offered on the free option of wealthy Affiliate but loads more on a paid.

A lot of people do get stuck especially artists with what ways can I get new visitors and potential buyers onto my website and wealthy affiliate can help massively with that. Of course networking in person at art exhibits is a good way to go as well, but the internet is a powerful tool.

      Best Wishes

  5. I am a grandmother, and I enjoy crocheting, I was thinking of starting another website with some of my crocheted items, do you think this is a good idea, or should I just go through Etsy? I really like working a website, so I think this article will help show me the way. I am not selling art, however, crochet is my art.

    1. Hello Bobbi,

I think starting a website with your crocheted items is definitely a good idea. Etsy is something you may want to do on top, to get more people to your website by promoting on there, but the main thing of creating your own website is the best way to go.

All the best and if you got any questions just come back to me on here and I will help you as best as I can.

  6. Hi, Eden.
Thanks for sharing your information on selling the artwork online. In a quick update, you gave a lot of information for the upcoming artists on how to showcase their creations online. My daughter is a great artist and we always mesmerised by her work. Now, as you suggested, we shall try on Redbubble to go a step further.
    Warm Regards,
    Gaurav Gaur

    1. Hello Gaurav,

Yes Redbubble is a great website to use, to also sell artwork. I am on there and have noticed in the past how many views I have got on my photos and I didn’t even promote on there. All the best to your daughter.

      Thank you and best wishes
